Master's research proposal which aims to raise awareness of campus litter, and to investigate a possible method of tackling it. The method investigated will be a deposit-return scheme at a university bar. Each drink sold will include a small deposit paid for the receptacle, this deposit will be returned upon its return. Litter and wastage around the area will be measured before, during, and after the implementation of the scheme in the bar. Any change in levels may be suggestive of the scheme's impact. The research hopes to demonstrate an effective method for litter and waste reduction in a university setting, and to encourage further investigation into these ideas in wider settings.
