The Big Spring Clean in forms part of a series of campaigns aimed to promoting a safer, cleaner and stronger Sandwell, West Midlands. The campaign, run in association with local environmental charity, Tipton Litter Watch, aims to encourage and develop a sense of community pride, whilst helping to keep Sandwell tidy. The campaign asks Sandwell residents, schools, community groups, businesses and the voluntary, private and public sector to volunteer their time throughout the months of March and April to help ‘Make Sandwell Sparkle’.

History
2007 Big Spring Clean hosted 147 events, with 2,250 volunteers, 37 schools, 8.4 tonnes of rubbish collected.
2008 Big Spring Clean hosted 105 events, with 3,500 volunteers, 62 schools, 7.2 tonnes of rubbish collected.
2009 Big Spring Clean hosted 116 events, with 5,250 volunteers, 79 schools, 15.3 tonnes of rubbish collected.

Campaign Success
2007 campaign: Sandwell MBC Shining Star Award Winner – Most Innovative Project. Chartered Institute of Public Relations Midlands Pride Award Winner – Community Relations. LGC & HSJ Sustainable Communities Award Finalist – Improving the Local Environment.
2008 campaign: Chartered Institute of Public Relations Midlands Pride Award Runner Up – Community Relations.
