Newbiggin Beach Clean

Twenty volunteers, including ten new faces from the village of Newbiggin, turned out to give a good clean to this beach that we have never visited before.  Newbiggin beach faces SW'ly, which means that it faces the prevailing winds and storms here in Morecambe Bay.  The result of this is that every storm brings more litter onto the beach.

The beach itself was quite clean, but the large rock armour that has been placed over the old sea defenses proved to be an amazing litter trap.  Of the fourty bags of litter collected, more than thirty were filled with litter taken from the rocks.  Although the rocks are not the most attractive of coastal defenses, they serve as an excellent litter trap and help improve the environment in a manner that was probably never intended!
