Taking the Wincanton Litter Army campaign forward
Our small group has achieved a lot in practical terms in a short period of time. As the verges now explode in a riot of green, I think we now need to consider carefully how any momentum may be maintained over the summer so that a more coordinated approach to the littering of our verges and ditches beside the approaches to our town and surrounding villages can be in place by the autumn. I plan to tackle the problem in the following way:
- Ensuring all are more proactive in reporting littered areas and flytipping
- Continued close liaison with Town and SSDC
- Persuading SSDC to devolve a limited amount of funds to the Town for its own Litter Picking Kit
- Try to persuade volunteers to join a concerted clean up over the winter months through a 'hotspot' plan
- Consider road adoption by volunteer groups as a possible option for the future
- Pressurise Town and/or SSDC to improve some of the worst littering areas around the town through more proactive bins, signs, redesign etc
- Take forward the views of the Litter Army volunteers into workable plans
- Publicising the work of the group etc etc
All ideas and support welcomed
